Andrew Symonds hit the fastest century in the IPL from 47 balls in his total 117* (53 balls,11x4,7x6), helped the Chargers to reach a very competitive total of 214/5.

This was not enough as Royal number 3 batsman Yusuf Pathan struck the fastest IPL half-century - from 21 balls - in his score of 61(28 balls, 4x4,6x6), IPL debuter Graeme Smith s useful 71 from 45 balls, Mohammad Kaif 34 (16 balls) and end quick blast of 22 from 9 balls by Royal captain Shane Warne helped Royals to reach the target with 1 ball left. It was Warne who ruled the last over from Symonds hitting successive sixes off the last two balls of the innings.

Shahid Afridi was the most successful bowler for the Chargers with 3 for 28 runs.

Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by just six runs to secure a second straight win in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday. It was Mumbai's second successive defeat.

Matthew Hayden smashed 81(46 balls,12x4,2x6), 21 years old Suresh Raina's 53 came from 36 balls (3x4,3x6) and skipper MS Dhoni's quick 16 balls 30 helped the Chennai Super Kings to reach 208/5 in their 20 overs.

Robin Uthappa's initial blast of 43 and a late burst from Abhishek Nayar (45 not out from 20) took the Mumbai Indians close to the total , but ultimately its the Supers King side who took the victory honor.

Splendid Sehwag Hammers Deccan Chargers

Result: Delhi Daredevils won by 9 wickets (with 42 balls remaining) scorecard

Deccan Chargers were struggling for 60/5 (with stars like Gilchrist, Symonds, Shahid Afridi already way to pavilion), then Rohit Sharma blasted 66 of 36 balls(6x4,4x6) to help the team to reach a compitive total of 142 for 8 in their alloted 20 overs.

But this total was not enough for Virender Sehwag as he smashed unbeaten 94 from just 41 balls to guide Delhi to its second nine-wicket win to start its Indian Premier League campaign. The match ended in just 13 overs. Sehwag smashed 10 fours and six sixes in his innings, highlighted by 30 from one over from Symonds.

Watson leads Royals to triumph

Result: Rajasthan Royals won by 6 wickets (with 11 balls remaining) scorecard

A tranquil batting performance from Aussie Allrounder Shane Watson led the Rajasthan Royals to a six-wicket win over the Kings XI Punjab - their first win in the Indian Premier League after being hammered by the Delhi Daredevils in their opening fixture. And for the Kings its second serial defeat in IPL.

Skipper Shane Warne took 3 for 19 in his 4 overs,Siddharth Trivedi spent only 25 runs for 2 wickets in his 4 over spell and "Ravindra Jadeja"(36 from 25 balls) unbroken partnership of 69 with Watson helped Roylas to reach the target with 11 balls to spare.

Shane Warne express grief for English IPL absence

"It is a real shame that players like (Kevin) Pietersen or Andrew Flintoff are not in the IPL," Warne said. "The ICC will have to show some common sense. The league should not be restricted to a 90-day wonder," Warne told the Asian Age.

Shane Warne says the absence of England's top cricketers from the Indian Premier League (IPL) is a "real shame" and has challenged ICC to find a permanent place for the Twenty20 event in the international calendar.
